Protecting Children Online

The Gratitude Fund supported the Bote Children’s Organization (BCO) in Catanduanes conduct a train-the-trainer training on online sexual abuse and exploitation of children and responsible internet use.

Based on observations of child leaders and members of the Bote Children’s Organization, many children at their barangay spend long hours on online games and social media despite weak internet signal in the area, but because of the presence of Piso Wi-Fi internet remains widely accessible and serves as the main gateway for children to access online platforms.

The Bote Children’s Organization is composed of child leaders who have undergone initial training on OSAEC Awareness and Responsible Internet Use through partner organizations and child protection programs.

The project begins with a Training of Trainers (TOT) for approximately 25–30 child leaders in Bato, Catanduanes. The TOT will run for 3 days and 2 nights, focusing on facilitation skills, peer education, and delivery of 7 OSAEC modules.

After the TOT, child leaders will facilitate the roll-out of the 7 modules to 30 children per barangay, ensuring representation from all puroks. This means a total of approximately 150 community children (30 per barangay × 5 barangays). The peer educators can extend their roll-out sessions to selected schools to reach out those who are in other barangays not covered by the project.
