The Baclayan Mangyan School (BMS) serves 254 Baclayan Mangyan School students from the Mangyan tribes of Iraya, Tadyawan, Hanunuo, and Alangan in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro.
Baclay Natin Project supports the work of BMS teachers and students. It is a community- driven education campaign inspired by the spirit of unity and shared responsibility. The project will harness the power of storytelling to emphasize the value of education and inspire collective action.
The Mangyan Yan! Crafts and Creations, one of the initiatives of the Baclay Natin Project, aims to empower Mangyan communities by showcasing their artistry, sharing their rich cultural traditions with a wider audience, and raising funds for the Baclay Natin Project.
The Gratitude Fund supports this initiative by providing seed capital for the production of indigenous handicrafts, while at the same time funding the production of 100 Kwentuhan Kits. The Kwentuhan Kits will include a drawstring bag sewn by the women of Baclayan, an activity book, slippers, and/or raincoat – things that are considered essential to student’s everyday journey to school.
