Nourishing Young Learners

The Gratitude Fund supports supplemental feeding of children in a school for indigenous people in Malitbog, Bukidnon.

The Municipality of Malitbog in Bukidnon has the highest poverty incidence across the whole province, with at least 67.5% of families living below poverty line.

The Holy Spirit Sisters (Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit or SSpS), as part of its missionary work, runs a school for indigenous peoples in Sitio Bayawa, Barangay Siloo. One of the problems impacting learning in the school is the lack of food in the families – children oftentimes go to school hungry.

The SSpS responded by conducting supplementary feeding 5 days a week even during vacation time. The school currently has 39 children. Oftentimes, children ask for extra food during feeding time so they can share this with their families. The Gratitude Fund, along with other donors, supports the sisters in this initiative.
