Greening the household

The Gratitude Fund supports Bahay Teknik to implement an innovative project to enable households to implement green practices.

(Camarines Norte. Luzon.)

Bahay Teknik in Daet, Camarines Norte, implements the The Green Carbon Trinity project, an innovative concept of integrating energy, cooking and gardening into one cohesive flow of activities of a household.

It follows the flow of carbon in the household complex beginning from the plant tissues to become fuels and then harvesting them after cooking and putting them back into the soil to help the plants sequester more carbon in the atmosphere.

Fuel may be produced by collecting and processing yard waste biomass such as wood sticks, shells, grasses and leaves. Cooking will be done using the char making brick stoves. Char is harvested after cooking. It will be mixed with the compost from the kitchen and will form part of the garden.

Through this system, a household will have a sustainable supply of fuel and food as well as reduce pollution and create savings.
